OpenDns Internet Filtering

How do you protect your home network from Spyware, Malware or restrict your computers from accessing specific websites. OpenDns is a free service that allows you to protect your home or business network. It's very simple to set up this service, all you have to do is create an account, which requires a valid email and password.

Once you create an account you can sign in to your account start creating restrictions to your network. Restrictions are based on Categories, you pick the category you want to block. Before you can start restricting websites you need to point your routers DNS to the following IP Address:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

If you don't have a router you can change the DNS on your computer. OpenDns has created a video tutorial on how to get you started.

Blue Coa t offers a free Internet filtering and control solution for the home. K9 Web Protection filtering software puts YOU in control of the Internet so you can protect your kids.

We installed the software on one of our test computers. The software does what it claims to do, as the Administrator (parent) of the computer you have the option to control what type of internet access this computer has. Another great tool this software has is that it allows you to set a time limit, or restrict Internet access on certain days and/or time. It also comes with an override option which allows the Administrator (parent) to access restricted pages if he/she chooses to, as long as you enter the correct password.

K9 Web Protection Software comes with a log history section were you can view internet activity reports. If you prefer to get email alerts when a specific computer is trying to access a block page, you set this up. The software comes with plenty of options and its easy to install that non technical parents can use.

We did find some ways to bypass the filtering software and access websites that were restricted, some are known issues that Blue Coat is aware of and working on. Visit Blue Coat forum and see what others are saying.

Is Windows Xp login you off as soon as you log in

There is a spyware/malware out there that is changing your registry files. These changes are affecting your userinit.exe file and, or other system files in your computer that is preventing you from login in to your computer.

Majority of the time the best and quick way to fix this problem is to do a fresh reinstall of your operating system. The problem that we run into is that 90% of the computer's we get have not been backed up. External hard drives are inexpensive and is one of the best ways to back up your data (we will discuss this later).

Some call this malware BlazeFind, this malware prevents any user account to log in to Windows, even in safe mode(f8). We removed the hard drive and scanned it for any viruses, spyware, and malware. The scan did find some bugs, but did not fixed our problem.

We found this great tip online (www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=924408) and we were finally able to log in to the computer. There were other tips and suggestions, but nothing seemed to work for us but this one at www.tek-tips.com did.

So if you ever run into this problem or know some one who is having this problem let them know that there might be a solution.
